I realized I never talked about the end of my piazza project. So, last week was so busy. It was our first week of actual class, and we were in the studio pretty much all day, sitting. I’m so happy to get up and move by the end of the day! After dinner we would head back to studio and work. Our project was due on Thursday, so Wednesday and Thursday were both nights I was there late. Surprisingly, I finished rather early on Thursday, around 2am. I’m wondering if the lack of other committed activities is enabling me to work faster. I mean, I’ve never really had an accurate feel for how fast I work because I always have something else to do too. Food for thought.
Anyway, we presented in our groups, based off of what piazza we had picked. So it was more like a group presentation but we each spoke individually about our work and tried to tie them together. Our presentation turned our really well! Ellen, Zach and I did the piazzas in Trastevere, and I had a focus on just one piazza (Trilussa), while they were focused on a slightly larger scale and looking at the network between the piazzas. A lot of people didn’t sleep though, which affected their presentations. Oh well.
In my analysis, I focused on a central axis that exists, and how patterning reinforces that axis. I also looked at how people use the objects in the space, how the objects become part of the topography, and how the usage changes over the course of a 24 hour period. I enjoyed it- and didn’t use the computer at all.
And that night after our Italian lecture (where we learned some Italian history), we had our group dinner. It was a buffet with aperitivo (appetizers). It was so delicious: meatballs, zucchini, peperoni, melon, mozzarella, pane, aranchini, quiche…and more. Yum.
